Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) was a Dutch Christian and author who is best known for her work in helping to hide Jewish people from the Nazis during World War II. Born in Haarlem, Netherlands, Corrie grew up in a Christian family and was trained as a watchmaker. Together with her father and other family members, she helped to shelter and protect Jewish people in her hometown by hiding them in a secret room in their home.
In 1944, the ten Boom family was discovered and arrested by the Nazis. Corrie and her sister Betsie were sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where Betsie died. Corrie was released in 1945 due to a clerical error, and after the war, she went on to speak and write about her experiences.
