Ellen G. White (1827-1915) was an American religious leader and author who is best known for her role in the formation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was born in Gorham, Maine, and was raised in a Methodist family. In 1840, when she was just 12 years old, she had a traumatic accident that left her with a severe head injury and ongoing health problems for the rest of her life.

At the age of 17, Ellen had a religious conversion and began to preach in her local Methodist church.
