Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) was an American novelist, short-story writer, and journalist. He is widely regarded as one of the most important writers of the 20th century, known for his economical and understated writing style.

Hemingway was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and spent much of his early life in Michigan. He served as an ambulance driver during World War I and was wounded in action.
