Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) was an American novelist, short-story writer, and journalist. He is widely regarded as one of the most important writers of the 20th century, known for his economical and understated writing style.

Hemingway was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and spent much of his early life in Michigan. He served as an ambulance driver during World War I and was wounded in action. After the war, he worked as a journalist and moved to Paris, where he became part of the expatriate community of writers and artists.

Hemingway’s first novel, “The Sun Also Rises,” was published in 1926 and established him as a major literary figure. He went on to write other highly acclaimed works, including “A Farewell to Arms,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and “The Old Man and the Sea,” which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953.
