Bette Davis was an American actress who was born on April 5, 1908, in Lowell, Massachusetts. She is considered to be one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history, known for her intense and powerful performances on screen.

Davis began her acting career in the theater, and made her film debut in the 1931 movie “Bad Sister”. She quickly became known for her strong performances, and earned her first Academy Award nomination for her role in the 1934 film “Of Human Bondage”. She went on to receive a total of 10 Academy Award nominations during her career, winning two for her roles in “Dangerous” (1935) and “Jezebel” (1938).

Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Davis appeared in a number of successful films, including “Dark Victory” (1939), “The Letter” (1940), and “Now, Voyager” (1942). She also became known for her feisty personality and independent spirit, and famously clashed with studio executives over her contracts and the roles she was offered.

In the 1950s, Davis continued to work in film, and also made several appearances on television. She received critical acclaim for her performance in the 1950 movie “All About Eve”, and earned another Academy Award nomination for her role in the 1962 film “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?”.

Davis continued to work in film and television throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but her health began to decline in the 1980s. She died on October 6, 1989, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, at the age of 81.
