Andrew Carnegie Quotes

Andrew Carnegie Quote

Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) was a Scottish-American industrialist, philanthropist, and one of the wealthiest individuals of his time. He played a significant role in the development of the American steel industry and was a notable figure in the history of American business.

Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, Carnegie immigrated with his family to the United States in 1848, settling in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He began working at the age of 13 as a bobbin boy in a cotton factory before transitioning to the telegraph industry. In 1859, he became a telegraph operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he worked his way up the ranks to become the superintendent of the Western Division by the age of 24.

Carnegie’s success in the railroad industry allowed him to invest in other ventures, including iron and steel production. He founded the Carnegie Steel Company in 1892, which became one of the largest and most successful steel companies in the world.

He established the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Carnegie Mellon University, among others.

Carnegie also played a role in American politics, advocating for peace and diplomacy in international relations. He supported the establishment of the Hague Tribunal for the resolution of international disputes and was a vocal opponent of war.

Andrew Carnegie passed away in Lenox, Massachusetts in 1919. His legacy as a businessman and philanthropist remains influential, with his charitable foundations continuing to make a significant impact in areas such as education, scientific research, and international relations.
